São Jacinto makes it easy to shed your car (it is safe) and explore the neighborhood on foot or by bicycle. This includes excursions - or even daily visits - to downtown Aveiro or its sprawling university campus and to the neighboring, more crowded (!) beach communities of Torreira, Barra, and Costa Nova.
Trips to Porto or Coimbra without a car require only slightly more planning and reviewing ferry, bus, and train schedules, but it is worth it.
Hourly speed trains connect Aveiro with both cities. In Porto in particular, finding free parking can be difficult outside the season, and almost impossible during the summer. You will be glad you took public transportation.
